Impact Of Technology In Architecture Cultural Studies Essay
Impact Of Technology In Architecture Cultural Studies raiseTechnology is a kind of tools, techniques, systems and machine, in order to help flock in solving problems and achieve goals. With the improvement of engine room, mess find it easy and wid lounge about in doing things in their life. In addition, it withal helps good deal to let off measure and hail while achieving goals and even improves the quality of whole caboodle. In the twenty- outset hundred, engine room is close alonething and everywhere in the world. As farsighted as on that point have been people, there has been technology. This quote hints that people use technology in almost everything they do and wherever they go. state find it hardly to avoid by using technologies, mobile phone is one of examples.Nowadays we hind end see most of the people argon holding a mobile phone in anywhere. With the forward-looking(a) technology, mobile phone heap be used to take photo, web surfing, map games, watch videos and and so on other than only if calls. This shows that technology has been already a part of human life.Other than that, the invention of internet by technology has flat changed the way on how the people live today comp ared to the previous generations. Almost everything suffer be done by doing it online in anywhere and anytime as long as they have a device that can access to the internet.Besides, the improvement of technology has influenced the several fields in the industry such as business, go industry, healthcare, film industry, architectural and etc. In the past, there were many issues that couldnt be solved plainly with the technology look through the course of instructions, the im contingent became possible, many familiarity and entropy, machinery and device have been enhanced and brought into the industries. In this essay, architectural will be the range of study, the influences and impact of technology on architecture. Technology has affected architectur e in several ways. Firstly, reckoner aided software was bring forthd to help architects in the development of instauration ideas in architecture project. Secondly, the pull machinery and methods were improved, in order to build any kind of form and shape to achieve the remarkable creation of the architects. Thirdly, knowledge and information of architecture were enhanced by the invention of the new materials.Architecture has been play an important role in human life, without it human couldnt live in the earth until now. Previously, expression was intended as a shelter or abode for human, however human seems to be more concerned and demanded on the behavior of the make rather than its ply in this twenty-first century. What is the reason of this issue? Does the technology affect the function of building? There are tether topics to be discussed in this essay, information technology (IT) will be the first topic, the impact of information technology on architecture. The secon d and third topics will talk about the particular architects, Zaha Hadid and rude Gehry, how they use the technology to apply in the bearing transition and the edifice of the unique form of the buildings. Several case studies of their buildings will be done in these topics.BackgroundModern architecture was a revolution. It destroyed the breathing Beaux-Arts regime and replaced it with a new order. The face of earth would never be the same. (John bill, 1994) Beaux Arts is a kind of sort in architecture design and it remained in the architecture industry for two-and-a-half centuries before the modern style of architecture take place. The appearance of Beaux-Arts architecture looks much more complicated compared to the modern architecture because it was depended on the graven decoration and modern architecture was depended on simple kind of forms. With the time passed, the Beaux Arts style of architecture was slowly replaced by the modern style of architecture. It was difficult to find the Beaux Arts style of architecture in the twentieth century. The buildings were mostly designed with modern style by the modernist architects. As the twentieth century dawned, architecture was clearly overdue for a change. The nineteenth-century Beaux-Arts style was out of joint with the times. (John Peter, 1994) In the twentieth century, the mindset of architects in the design process of architecture was changed. The appearance of the buildings were started not to design with the purpose for historical commemoration but based on the specific function of the building.Whether it be the sweeping eagle in his relief valve or the open apple-blossom, the toiling work-horse, the blithe swan, the branching oak, the winding stream at its base, the drifting clouds, over all the coursing sun, form ever take places function, and this is the law. Louis henry Sullivan (Frei, 199232) This quote was made by one of the famous architects, Louis Henry Sullivan in his essay, The Tall Off ice Building Artistically Considered in 1896.With the quote that Louis Henry Sullivan made, every building has its own function which means how the way that the owner of the building used it and all the buildings should have its particular facade and form based on their specific functions. For instance, a hospital should have to be designed like a building that use to serve those people who come and seek for health check attention and people can be able to diverseiate a hospital from a library that people use to borrow books and find research and resources or a school that people use to study. There were the good points and bad points in architectural by the law of Louis Henry Sullivan, form follows function. People may find it easy in finding the particular building that they want to go but it limited the design ideas from designing a building with a unique form, in order to make people have a different kind of feeling on the sense of sight. Other than just the law, the design ide as were also limited by the technology in the past. Some architects may have the design ideas with different kind of architecture style but they couldnt proceed to the construction stage by using the old technology. In the twentieth century, the technology has been improved and architects are get-go to design with a phrase, function defies form which was the changing of the concept of architectural form and functions. The law of Louis Henry Sullivan, form follows function will be no longer exists in the abutting century. The form of the buildings were not designed according to their own function like the facade of a library may looks like a museum or people may not know what is it until they go into the building. Bernard Tschumi, a renowned architect and a transgression thinker in architectural issues, suggested that function does not follow form, form does not follow function. However form and function certainly interact, if only to produce a shock effect. (Izham Ghani, 2007)The n ew technology, cookd as industrial or applied science, produced a multiplying array of new machines and materials. (John Peter, 1994) With the improvement of technology, several new materials were invented into the architecture industry. These new materials were inexpensive and flexible to use in construction and the invention of these enabled the architects to create different kind of unique design in architecture. Other than that, the limitations of the past in construction can be solved by using the modern technologies. The products of the new technology steel beams and cables, reinforced concrete, and plastic changed the way buildings were designed and built. Units mass-produced in factories and assembled with modern machinery on the site surrender both time and money. Perhaps most important of all, they save labor. All of this is still true today, despite the fact that our buildings contain sophisticated equipment for heating, cooling, lighting, communications, and security u ndreamt in earlier times. (John Peter, 1994) Human got a lot of benefits by the improvement of technology in the time passed. Aesthetic architectures were created to beautify the environment, in the same time people can live or work in a comfortable environment, in order to produce high quality works.Architecture with the occupation of new materials for the appearance of the building can produce a beautiful sense of sight to people. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the German architect Peter Behrens designed the influential Berlin Turbine Factory for the electrical firm Allgemeine Elektrizitats-Gesellshaft. With its reinforced Concrete and huge glazed side-walls, it signaled the emergence of a new architecture. Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier worked in his office. (John Peter, 1994)In the twenty-first century, many architecture styles were created and many buildings were designed and constructed with different ways to produce aesthetic and unique appe arance. Irregular shape of architecture can be constructed by using the high technologies of construction. It is based on the demands of the architects, architects can design the building in any kind of shape that they want with the advanced technology today. The advanced technology allowed the architects to generate their ideas digitally which designing in a virtual space. It can be done by using the computer aided software which is another creation by the technology. With all these technologies, architects gained a lot of benefits in the designing process and even can produce a great work in architecture.Information TechnologyInformation technology (IT) is the meaning of the use of telecommunications and computers equipment for the purpose of storage, processing, transfer and manipulating data. People normally used IT as a term of synonym for computers. However it has consist of many different kind of technologies such as computers, computer software and networks, telephones, mobil e phones, printers and scanners and even autotype machines. With the invention of IT, it did change the way people work other than the way people live. It helps people to save time and cost to produce even breach work compared to workings manually. Most of the works can be done with paperless in the electronic way. Other than that, it has the ability for people to produce mass mathematical product in a short time.Electronic mail, groupware, telecommuting and videoconferencing, have hold out relatively standard technologies to enhance group processes. These technical innovations have made it possible for work teams to communicate at anytime, anyplace and anywhere. (Johnson Clayton, 1998) IT brings benefits for the people who work in group, it makes people convenience in communications and allows them to have group discussions at anytime, in order to produce a better and quality result. Information technology can significantly improve work group productivity by change magnitude the speed and decreasing the cost of communication and coordination. (Johnson Clayton, 1998)At the same time, people are also able to transfer or exchange data and information with the internet technology by using the electronic mail or several software such as Dropbox, Virtualbox and etc. They can instantly get all kind of data and information in electronic forms from the certain person that they are communicating with. In this way, people manage to save cost and time in travelling around to get all the documents that they want. The top three organizational effects were allowed business to be done at great distances, shortened work cycle time, and reduced the need for clerical support staff. (Johnson Clayton, 1998)With all these advanced technologies, the way of architects think in designing a building has been changed. The design of architecture will be demanded on the conceptualization, aesthetic or functionality. It is because of the advancement of the technologies has been r esulted in the lost of the basic function of a building. In the past, people have to send letters by putting them into the post-box, shopping in shopping malls, super markets and retails or do research and borrow books in the library. With the advanced technology, all these activities can be done by using email technology, online shopping and web searching for information or download e-books from the internet. Nowadays, people are too relied on using the technology to do everything, they can achieve their goal or complete their task by using the internet without sledding the chair. Architects have to design with the aim of beautify the space instead of the functionality of it because the need of built space has been reduced. As a result of this, many buildings were designed in curvilinear forms with the assist of information technology. IT has freed the architect to create heretofore unaccomplished curvaceous form, and new service areas are emerging in the information age barrier m arketplace. (Larry R. Barrow, 2000)Other than that, IT has impacted architecture in the design process as well other than just the form. In the end of the twentieth century, architects are starting to design and generate ideas by using computer. Complex and unique design of architecture can be done with computerized and the invention of computer aided software such as AutoCAD, InteriCAD, Adobe software, Rhinoceros, 3D Studio Max, CATIA (Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) and many more. With all this computer aided software, architects are able to save time and create unique design that cannot be done by manually. Other than that, it enabled architects to have accurate measurement for the space calculation, in order to create realistic visual of the designed building. In the twenty-first century, computerization and the improvement of design technology and practice are two of the most important technology in the architecture industry. Improving design technology means the development of new design tools that help designers spend less time and effort on data collection, computation, and preparation of design documentation, and more on problem solving. (Hugues Rivard, 2000) It is clear that computer aided software has already become one of the design tools in the designing process in the architecture field.Drawings are the main output of the design process in architectural and there are two types of musters which are the two-dimensional drawings and three-d drawings. Two-dimensional drawing defined as having all elements in a flat surface and normally it comes with only two dimensions every length and width or width and height, without any depth or thickness. And, three-dimensional drawing defined as pics or pictures with the objects that come with all the three dimensions which are the length, width and height.Furthermore, drawings are produced by using the computer aided software with the application program of virtual reality (VR). VR is a computer-generated world involving one or more human senses and generated in real-time by the participants actions. The real-time responsiveness of the computer to the participants action distinguishes VR from other kinds of computer-generated simulations. The participant in a VR environment is commentator and creator at the same time, in a world where the object of perception is created by actions. (Daniela Bertol, 1997)A virtual model can be created with the application of VR in the computer aided software to simulate reality for a three-dimensional image. This model enabled architects to have a detailed planning and predict any kind of technical issues, in order to achieve the demands of realism. Besides, it allows architects to visualize spaces efficiently and produce a most truthful image of a building. Moreover, the real image of the building can be seen in the computer or printed it out before it is built. Thus, architects are able to edit or change the design if there is any unpleasant feel or it looks unsightly.Virtual RealityVirtual reality (VR) is clearly introduced in the previous contents. From the research, VR applications have also been used in various fields like medicine, astronomy, entertainment, sport, art and etc. And, it has been used as a design tool in architecture design. We can easily prevent how the characteristic of VR such as interaction, immersion and three-dimensionality, react in the architecture field. By the application of VR, rendering tools have been provide for perception, evaluation and the aesthetic clear of an architecture environment before construction from the change of perspective. Hereby, a question will be bring up into this content How does VR use as a design tool in architecture design?Based on the seatigation of design issues through the year goes, the design process has been improved and became raise after the applied of VR in the architecture field. However, using VR as a design tool has the least po tentiality among the VR application. Traditionally, the process of concept ideas input signal was cartroad with hand-rendered, two-dimensional re put forwardations or fieldes by writing materials such as pencil, paint or ink on paper but it can now be transformed with the immersive way to produce preliminary sketches or three-dimensional visuals with computer-assisted technology. It is all credit to the writ of execution of VR.During the implementation of VR in the architecture design, the three-dimensional modeler 3DM that has been unquestionable at the University of North Carolina created the three-dimensional models by using a HMD system and hand-held pointing device. By the providing of this application, models can be transform and edit with the capabilities of copying, pasting, cutting, moving and measure and even can be manipulated with the immersive ways.Design Process from Sketches to ModelsThere are many stages in the design process such as mapping, diagrams, sketches , construction drawing and etc. Sketches and working drawing with the concept ideas input are important while they can be differentiates by the accuracy, detail and amount of representative information. When the input of the concept ideas on the sketches are enough to be expressive and able to develop into working drawing which mean it can be program and discover by the computer.Computer-aided design (CAD) is useful and convenience in modeling because it provides valuable tools. For an example, a unique curved wall design of a facade can be extrude with a round shape of opening while its model can be implement with exact dimensions given of the wall and the opening. And, restate operation can be implemented in the CAD application as well.In the other hand, the immediacy of the process by translating a sketch straight into a functional model can enhance the act of creativity and the understanding of the three-dimensional space.Two-dimensional Media and Scale ModelsThe two-dimensio nal media such as paper is always using in the design of architecture as the communication of concept ideas into the design development. Other than that, the presentation drawings such as the construction drawing, detailing drawing and three-dimensional perspective are representing the three-dimensional objects with two-dimensional media. Even every output of the computerized such as CAD has to be present with the two-dimensional media by displaying on the screen or printed on paper. There is another option for the design of architecture which is the scale models while it can define the understanding and fulfill the usage of the unbuilt three-dimensional space. However, the quality of the space has been reduced due to the model cannot be inhabited and user cannot experience from the inside.Virtual surroundWhile the running of design process takes place in a virtual environment where the designer is inside the product of his design is called immersive design and different conceptions will be bring to the act of creativity by this process. The creation of form is possible in the immersive design environment like the raising of walls, entailment and rotation of the objects. Floors and stairs can be built and edited with the reaction by the perceptual impact. Boolean operations of addition or subtraction can be used for the design which based on volumes to allow the act of molding and carving motion. The different values have been assumed while the implementation of traditional compositional rules changed from two-dimensional representations into three-dimensional immersive environment. Proportions between various architectural elements can be verified by inhabiting the space.Though to date, immersive design should be realize with the virtual reality application which will revolutionize the design of architecture. The discussion of the traditional act of designing should be carry out for the architect to align to the notion of sketching in space and being inside a nd a direct experience of three-dimensional space.Zaha HadidZaha Mohammad Hadid is an Iraqi-British architect who born on 31st October 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq. She is the first Muslim and female who got awarded the Prizker Architecture observe in 2004. She also received the Stirling Prize continuously in 2010 and 2011.In Zaha Hadids education, she studied architecture course at the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture in London after she got a degree in the mathematics course at American University of Beirut. afterward that, she worked for her previous lecturers who are Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis. She also worked as a lecturer of AA in 1980s after she became a partner with Koolhass in 1977. She accordingly set up an architecture and design firm, Zaha Hadid Architects with over 300 employers in London, United Kingdom.Zaha Hadids buildings are always designed with the appearance of uniquely futuristic style and interlocking form. With the advanced technologies and new materials, she is able to produce curvilinear kind of architecture with her contemporary and innovative design. Her completed and on-going projects included Contemporary Arts Centre, Guangzhou Opera House, Vitra force out Station, BMW Central Building, London water sport Centre, Galaxy Soho and etc. Other than that, she is also working on interior and designing furniture and automobile with the characteristic of fluidity.Zaha Hadid has become one of the famous contemporary architects by taking the benefits of the advanced technologies to apply on her architecture design. She is interested on the impact of technology because it helps in the casualty of the construction and affected the way of designing a building. In 2012, she won the Jane Drew Prize and from a particular interview by Architects Journal, she advised architects to invest in digital technology and travel around, it helps in the inspiration and creativity of design. (Merlin Fulcher, 2012)BMW Central BuildingB MW Central Building was the winning design of Zaha Hadid of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. It is located at Leipzeg, Germany and its tangled built was cost about 1.55 billion dollars. It is use to manufacture the BMW 3 Series Automobile. BMW AG. Munich Germany is the owner of the building, 60 meg dollars were used for the cost of construction. It was constructed by Arge Rohbau, OBAG and Wolf Mueller GmbH with the supports of structural engineer, AGP Arge Gesamtplanung, IFB Stuttgart. The original construction of the BMW factory consists of three different buildings which were designed by their own estate and focusing group. The three different buildings are functioning as for the manufacturing process of the production of BMW 3 Series automobiles. They are separately undertaking the making of auto bodies, movie process and the final assemblage process of parts. There is a competition held for the purpose of designing and connecting all the 3 different buildings. Connec tivity was used as a concept of Zaha Hadid in the design which was the method of overlapping and interconnecting between the spaces and levels. As a result of the concept application, the separation of the three buildings was blurred and it gave a complex design in the interior.Zaha Hadid has fully utilized the advanced technology of design tool and machinery of construction and the new materials in both constructions and design process of this project. A conversation has been carried out between Zaha Hadid, Patrik Schumacher (Partner of Zaha Hadid), Lars Teichmann (Project Architect of Zaha Hadid Architects) and Todd Gannon (Series Editor, Source Books in Architecture) about the design process and construction techniques of this project. In the conversation, Lars Teichmann said that there is always a person testing the ideas with physical models in the workshop and in the same time, few persons will be doing development of three-dimensional models and two-dimensional drawings in the computer. And, all this process allows them to develop a range of possible interpretations of their ideas. Besides, concrete was used as the material of the walls to solve the loads problem that would be carried down through the building. Concrete walls are much stronger to carry more loads and they were able to cut openings through the concrete walls with advanced technology as they needed. (Todd Gannon, 2006)London Aquatics CentreLondon Aquatics Centre is a centre for the use of indoor sports which are swimming and diving. It was constructed to be a venue for the London 2012 majestic Games. The centre has been built at 27th July 2011 and it is located at Olympic Park, Stratford, London, United Kingdom. It is operated by the Olympic Delivery Authority, moreover, the construction has cost about 269 jillion pounds. Besides, the centre has been built by the contractor, Balfour Beauty with the help of structural engineer, Ove Arup Partners. Furthermore, the capacity of the centre c an fit up to 17,500 seats.Evidently, from the complexity and unique design of the aquatics centre can be seen, that was under Zaha Hadids contemporary and innovative design. The aquatics centre was designed by Zaha Hadid with the concept of the fluidity of water in motion. The design of the spaces and surrounding environment has come with the inspiration from the landscape of Olympic Park. Precast-concrete has been used as the main material for the construction of this building. Other than that, the roof that looks like a wave was constructed with steel and glass was used for the facade of the building. There were wings on the both side of the building that used to provide extra position for the audiences of the Olympic Games. However, they would not be there permanently because they were not a part of Zaha Hadids original design. Once the games are over, they will be removed and in the same time, the aquatics centre will be deconstructed and it will be open again for the public in 2014.Jacques Rogge, IOC President, described the Centre as a masterpiece. He said that he had a visual shock when he was visiting the centre last year (2011) because he felt that this centre is unique and a state of art compared to other venues that he saw. (BBC Sport, 2012) It is apparent that Zaha Hadid has applied the technology well in her architecture design. Thus, she can create many kinds of unique design and aesthetic buildings to beautify the environment and of course with her innovative mindset.Frank GehryFrank Owen Gehry was born with the yell, Frank Owen Goldberg but with the suggestion by his wife, Anita Snyder, he has changed his name to Frank O. Gehry. Frank Gehry was born on 28th February 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was a winning architect of the Canadian-American Pritzker Price who based in Los Angeles and he also awarded several prize such as AIA Gold Medal, National Medal of Arts and Order of Canada. In the World Architecture Survey in 2010, his works ha ve been quoted as the important contemporary architecture in the world because he was one of the most influenced and important architects in the twentieth century. With his reputation as a famous architect, he has considered as a modern architectural icon in the architecture industry. His buildings are well-known in designing with sculptural in form and always full of surprise with amazing architecture design. In 1954, he studied architecture course in the University of Southern calcium and got the Bachelor of Architecture degree. He then studied city planning in Harvard University Graduate School of Design and he worked for a few architecture firms. In 1962, he established his own company, Frank O. Gehry and Associates, Inc. and he started his architectural career. In 1989, the way of his designing process has been changed, from manual to computerized. Jim Glymph who was the computer systems expert conjugated Gehrys company while he wanted to design more on curves. He then wanted th e more complex shape in his design and Glymph helped him by getting CATIA program from the aerospace industry. (Mild Friedman, 2002) With the help of the computer software programs, Gehry started to reject in designing with straight lines and boxy shapes in architecture. With his built up architectural career, he managed to produce designs for the public and private architecture in Europe, America and Asia.In the year 2002, Gehry Partners, LLP was established, with over 175 employers in the company and it provided full run for the residential, commercial and institutional. In the Gehry Partners company, most of the employers have the ability to produce technical drawings and construction documents and they are qualified to manage complex architecture projects. The company is working by depending on the Digital Project, a computer aided design (CAD) application based on CATIA software which was developed by one of the Frank Gehrys companies, Gehry Technologies.Within the years, Fran k Gehry has produced many buildings with striking and unique design. His buildings consist of his owned residence, Guggenheim Museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Experience Music project, Weisman Art Museum, Dancing Horse, Art Gallery of Ontario and etc. With the assist of the computer technology and the application of unconventional materials, Gehry was able to create deconstructed aesthetic building in deconstructivism style.CATIACATIA is a type of computer aided design software with a full form of Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application. It was developed by a French company named Dassault Systemes with the licensed, Proprietary software. A French aircraft manufacturer, Avions Marcel Dassault started to develop CATIA in 1977 and it has been applied in several industries such as automobile, aerospace, shipbuilding and etc. It helps in the design development with conceptualization, three-dimensional modeling, visualization and etc. Complex innovative forms can be also created by using CATIA.Guggenheim MuseumGuggenheim Museum is an art museum that designed in modern and contemporary arts. It was established on 18th October 1997 and located at Abando, Bilbao, Spain. This contemporary building is owned by Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and it was built by Ferrovial, S.A. with the construction cost of 89 billion US dollars. Moreover, it was built along the Nervion River and mainly used to exhibit the works of international and Spanish artists.Besides, it has been one of the most famous buildings especially in the year of 1998 and 1999 because it was the famous topic among the architects in the industry. In the year of 2007, there were more than one million of people to visit the museum. In the 2010 World Architecture Survey, it has been called as one of the most important building since 1980. Other than that, it has been called by the world-famous architect, Philip Johnson, the greatest building of our time. The New York Times even said that the building is a miracle. After finish compression process tablets goes to coating area where sicken mask the unpleasant test and odour. Visual inspection machines are used for governing damaged core or coated tablets. The last but non least process is packaging and it divide into two managements i.e. primary packaging with blister and secondary packaging with strip. After completion all these process finishing tablets transfer to finishing goods store as per bloodline management.WALMARTWal-Mart is largest retailer service company in the humanity, headquarter in the States. The first Wal-mart store was opened by Sam Walton in 19961 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Wal-mart adopt different process management during operation like capacity management (coping with fluctuation in demand) , inventory (avoiding rivulet out of products from sale) management, supply chain management (arranging for legal transfer of products to stores) etc. Wal-mart has worldwide customers. Their competitive priority is a customisation. They formulate medicine forecast upon the age like children (0 11 years), teenagers (12 17 years), adults (18 32 years) etc. because every does of medicine is keep going by parameters quantity of quality depend on age. Medicine also characterise by design shape and test which also depend on age, for example children likes sweets medicine with small size of tablets, etc.ALKEM laboratories has large volume flexibility because they are able to expand product manufacturing capacity as per customer demand. The volume flexibility basically carry depend on demand and requirement.Comparison on the basis of CORPORATE STRATEGYCorporate dodging is a outline which provides positions itself-importance in its global, economic, political and social environment. In other words corporate strategy gives positioning of a corporation and the business. Corporate strategy consists with environmental scanning, Developing core competencies ( workforce, facilities, market and financial, systems and technology ), developing core processes and global strategy.(reference- lecture slides notes OM book by Robert Johnston fifth edition page no 92 )CORPORATE STRATEGYALKEM LEBORETORIESWAL-MARTCost leadershipYesYesProduct leadershipYesNoCustomer intimacyYesYesCost leadershipALKEM laboratories and WAL-MART some(prenominal) caries cost leadership. ALKEM lab use cost leadership to increase maximum share. As I discussed in above, ALKEM deliver low cost product with high quality product because they have own generate raw materials by salutaryy automated system so they also minimize labour cost. WAL-MART has worldwide branches with no.1 position in their field so certainly market share also increase by cost leadership technique. WAL-MART has gained maximum share price in USA market by the using cot effective technique as compare wit h other competitors. It has variety of items with variety of price so it able to satisfy customers with effective less cost. (reference by OM book page 47)Product leadershipALKEM laboratories is a product leadership company because they are providing effective unique quality of medicine in the market by considering each different types of customers need. So cost also differ from variation in but ALKEM never via media its quality with cost. WAL-MART does not caries product leadership because it only concentrate on how to minimize cost of the product to stand up in the service market with customer satisfaction. (reference by OM book 8th page 47)Customer intimacyALKEM laboratories as well as WAL-MART both has customer intimacy because they both have technique to understand and maintain existing and new customers requirements. WAL-MART use measuring card so that they are able to know customer interest. ALKEM lab also use measuring chart for that bank bill customer interaction, this ca n measure yearly or half yearly. So by this technique both companies are able to project customer intimacy. secern BCritically analyzeCapacity preparationCapacity planning which define excess take aim of output in operation, process, facility etc. of any governance. Information is very much acceptable to build a successful capacity plan or decisions for an government activity. outright, here I am going to critically describe timing and sizing expansions as wait-and-see strategyTiming and sizing expansion consists with expansion strategy and wait-and-see strategy. The expansion strategy which involves large infrequent jumps in capacity that is predictable. Wait-and-see strategy which involves smaller prediction or absolutely circumstance prediction. This type of capacity planning is preferred by many of organization but not in all organization.wait-and-see strategy cannot be applicable in pharmaceutical (ALKEM laboratories) company, because during manufacturing medicine demora lize expire date. so if company predict more or less during manufacturing and it cannot be sale after manufacturing than company get spill. Therefore pharmaceutical (ALKEM) company always aware about this condition and formulate product that are demanded by other parties.(reference by notes OM book Krajewski 8th ed Nigel slack 5th ed, page no 320)Inventory managementInventory is nothing but it is stock of an organization where goods or finished goods are stored . Generally types of inventory depend on different organization because it change time to time as per demand requirement, but in general there are five types of inventory. happen upon them buffer or safety inventory, rhythm inventory, decoupling inventory, anticipation inventory, and pipeline inventory.Managing inventory is big challenge for every organization because excess inventory gives less get but less inventory gives more profits. Now, here I am going to critically describe bout inventory and ABC control inventor ycycle inventoryCycle inventory is for a product that having consistent demand or supply in market. We can also say that cycle inventory is a time bond inventory which supply demand at a specified time while product available in market or not. Example weekly, monthly, etc. organization specially retailers like wal-mart to have safety stock, and avoid the use of cycle inventory to protect themselves from trail out of stock of products in excess demand or any discontinuity in supply chain. That pass on affect the trust and reliability factor that they have with their customers.ALKEM laboratories also avoid cycle inventory because its demand not at a consistent level at all time by supplier or customer. For example in one week customer demand for 10 thousand tablets strips but in next week or any other week customer demand for 2 thousand tablets strips. So variation in demand cannot fulfill by the use of cycle inventory.(reference by notes OM book Krajewski 8th ed Nigel slack 5th e d, page no 396 )Supply chainSupply chain is a network that attach firms core process it may be internal or external, like raw materials delivery from warehouse to manufacturing unit, customer and supplier relationship, etc. It provide to achieve competitive priorities. Supply chain gives the information about bottleneck process and try to minimize this concept. It also providing lower operating cost and reduce inventory. The main aim of supply chain is to meet the end customer requirements and satisfaction. Supply chain may also define as, the tier of organizations their facilities, functions, activities that are involved in producing and delivering a product or service. Now, here I am going to critically describe outsourcingOutsourcing is a way of process by which a organization takes the services of other company or firm and pays them for their services or materials. This can be only happen when two firms has same kinds of product manufacturing.AKKEM laboratories pharmaceutic cann ot use or prefer outsourcing because it will affect the quality parameters and if the quality parameters are not matched by even very small size, the results might be very big disasters. Medicine should be more perfection because it related with our life so ALKEM pharmaceutical company never want to be agree with customer life. For example ALKEM company has 1.000% perfection products and other one pharmaceutical company has 1.001% perfection products. So ALKEM company never want be compromise with 0.001% less perfection.(reference by notes OM book Krajewski 8th edition, page no 47) exertion MeasurePerformance bill is a activity that measure whole performance of process operation. This performance objective consists with quality, speed, dependability, flexibility and financial these all are measure by composite with customer satisfaction, overall service operation level. Performance measure also concern with constraint management like inventory, throughput, operating expense and utilization of all process. By using some techniques we can find performance measurement such asPerformance matrixSix sigma techniqueBalance score card (Kaplan and Norton)Balance score card diddle whole business strategic positions. It measure past financial conditions of an organizations. The balance scorecard measurement taken with the help of Kaplan and Norton. Balance scorecard provide classic information about organization strategic so, that easy to measure performance of an organization. The only benefits of this process measurement is to give performance result in a single report.fig 5. Measure used in the balanced scorecardIn financial performance, it performe past measurement of profits, shereholder interest, capital market structure, etc. this gives judgment to make target plane for proximo market. In internal process perfprmance, it measure efficiency of manufacturing production speed, employee perfomance, etc.In Learning and growth performance, it measure and try to i mplement technological affect, innovative work, new product discipline, etc.In customer performance, it tend to evaluate customer feedback, customer rate of satisfaction, etc. Now, here I am going to critically describe about Balance score cardThe balance score card does not show any future aspects. It only gives the past financial aspects or can measure financial aspects along with the past financial performances. It does not indicate what problems will come or occurs in future and does not provide any solutions for those problem.Balance scorecard not acceptable by ALKEM laboratories firms because it gives past financial measurement which is not quite good to make future plane . By the use of balance score card organization or company are not able to evaluate adequate future value through investment in customers, suppliers, employees, process, technology and innovation. So this performance measurement are also not accepted by ALKEM laboratories.(Reference- notes Operations managem ent, by Robert Johnston page no 613)Total quality management (TQM)Total quality management is a severalize of success of any organization or industry. In other words Total Quality Management is a way by which any organization or industry can get more quality and assurance with the help of three main principle that are Customer satisfaction, Employee involvement, and continuous value.Customer satisfaction is very much fundamental because, it is a path to that any organization can achieve high level of loyalty and product demand. This satisfaction is achieved by specification of product, values, durability, support, and mental attraction.Employee involvement is a second success key for organization or industry. In this step every employee contribute his salutary potential work to develop cultural change i.e. time to time modification in production, technology, new innovation, etc in every sector and build a strong team to take effective decision. Quality at source is main that des cribe inspect defected product and after solve and proceed it in process, where it created.Continuous improvement is an improvement that indicate performance increment which can be more and smaller. Continuous improvement is also known as Kaizen which is Nipponese words. Every organizations aim is to build image in market by attractive product launch so modification is very much important with innovative machine technology by this continuous improvement organization get accelerative benefits in less time. Now, here I am going to critically describe about Quality at sourceTQM is applicable for more firm but not all firm. In the fount of pharmaceutical company quality at source which is part of TQM is not accepted by pharmacy company because Quality at source say that, at every step should need to provide required quality parameters without inspectors for rechecking the quality but when the matter of life death as in considerable in ALKEM pharmaceutical firm this cannot be apply. S o this part of Total quality management cannot apply in ALKEM laboratories, because it necessary to make sure at every step the exact quality maintained to avoid any disaster.(reference by notes OM book Krajewski 8th ed Nigel slack 5th ed, page no 563 )PART CEvaluating mixI have chosen wait-and-see, cycle inventory, outsourcing, balance scorecard, and quality at source in part B so behalf of these topic, Now here, I am going to evaluate its impact on ALKEM laboratories firm on the basis of Competitiveness, Innovation and Sustainability.CompetitivenessIt provide services and product that full fill the criteria of quality, services standards with acceptable profits.ALKEM pharmaceutical laboratories cannot prefer wait-and-see strategy because by expanding its production, it may result in over production and the product has limited self life and due to this the chances of expiring before consumption increase. So it injustice the product and investment. In the cycle inventory concept, ALKEM can loss its competitiveness because in case of fluctuation in demand from market, they will not able to withstand and hence will causes customer unsatisfaction, delivery time failure and loss the customer loyalty. Outsourcing is other factor which should be avoided because it causes product quality variation but in case of ALKEM laboratories i.e. quality oriented firm, where quality is first goal. So they cannot compromise quality with cost. Balance scorecard also a part of competitiveness loss because it does not indicate future financial performance, customer target etc due to having past measurement ability. Similarly ALKEM laboratories cannot commend quality at source technique because increasing the chance of quality decrease.InnovationIt is idea that transfer efficient cost and satisfy specific requirement.Innovation is essential, it has to be used. Innovation has great impact on wait-and-see strategy because when higher production is required in short time than inn ovation and technology are the key points to be used together and improved to achieve the goals by increasing machine/ process efficiency. ALKEM laboratories should not used cycle inventory, but should innovate new process which are cost effective and productive for achieving customer satisfaction and market share. In term of outsourcing company cannot develop their ability in technology and innovation field with their product because in this term company develop their product with collaborate company. So ALKEM laboratories should not use outsourcing operation that might affect in quality as well as increase in cost and result will, loss customer faith. Balance scorecard gives the measurement of past financial performance, so that ALKEM laboratories should not use this technique that affect high financial, customer and process development target. New era and innovation technique use to achieve improvement and high performance and their set target. Quality at source should not use in ALKEM laboratories, here innovation play vital role that means company should inspect the protect after every process steps to find out any problems and can hence become able to innovate new process of resourcing and making sure they are not happening again.SustainabilityIt is way of Ability to maintain an activity or process over the long term.Sustainability is main key to identify product durability, strength, etc. it growth is depend on natural condition or resources. Now in sustainability condition ALKEM pharmaceutical laboratories should need to prefer wait-and-see strategy, because it gives predictable production, so it is a way of continuous improvement or growth that affect the economy growth during natural disaster or unwanted natural condition, but apart from environment condition wait-and-see strategy should not be applicable in ALKEM laboratories. In the cycle inventory concept, ALKEM can loss its sustainability because in case natural disaster they will not able to mai ntain their customer demand so that result will causes like customer unsatisfaction, delivery time failure and loss the customer loyalty. Outsourcing is another one which should need to be avoided by ALKEM laboratories because they have limited time period of product and also it causes product quality variation so that it loss durability and strength over a long time period. Balance scorecard also a part of sustainability loss because it does not indicate future financial growth, customer target etc that indicate how sustain in market environment so ALKEM should not be use this concept. Similarly ALKEM laboratories should not recommend quality at source technique because increasing the chance of quality decrease that are not suitable for durability condition.CONCLUSIONThus, I have studied and evaluate different operation technique use in an organisation to make and maintain effective operation. I have also conk out all different operation which is not applicable / suitable for all type of company or organisation. So after this study, I have analysed that without operation management technique, organization cannot stay in challenging market. Indeed operation management is the effective weapon.SUMMARYThe aim of this task is to fill out different concept, glide path and important of management operations, which are apply or may be apply in two different organization. The description contain, Comparison on the basis of competitive priorities i.e. cost, quality, delivery speed, volume, variety, etc. and corporate strategy i.e. customer relationship, product development, service modification, order maintain, etc. Apart from comparison this description also elaborate different theoretical concept and its evaluation and impact such as capacity planning, inventory management, supply chain, performance measurement, and total quality management. evaluation impact description based on new era and environment.

Managing changes in the British Airways organization
Managing miscellaneas in the British Airways organizationThis discipline is the separate of assessment of the managing mixtures in shaping and on-going research and opportunities available for the diametric changes in the strategies. For this assessment I sop up chosen the British Airways as my organisation for the foreseen of the management of the organisational changes and how they can be rough-and-readyly implemented in an organisation. This report c overs all the get word aspects for the implementation of the changes within as organisation and as well suggests some implications for their achievementful running.Good organisation organize does not by itself provoke not bad(predicate) performance. But a poor organisation structure makes good performance impossible, no matter how good the individual managers may be. (Drucker in Mullins (2005) p597)trade union movement 1Explore the background to change affecting the current organisationDiscuss the background to change th at exists in todays economy that motivated your organisation to count form.INTRODUCTIONIn todays era we atomic number 18 lining in the organisational beingness and this world is tending to be change never-endingly. Organisations in the society atomic number 18 the approximately important part as they serve many vital and undeniable leases and demands of the society and even individuals.NEED FOR ORGANISATIONAL CHANGEChanges are mostly taken as the fears and uneasiness of the unknown. The changes of organisation within a firm or confederacy are subjected to activate by the need and necessity to respond over the fresh opportunities, innovative guinea pig of challenges and the responses to the government laws and regulations. There are the external forces that bring the changes are effected by the minglight-emitting diode factors like innovative technologies, policies, structure of taxes, legislation policies and coming opportunities with different market forces.Organisati onal changes for the sectors of private area are vital as thither is pressure from the different environments over them. There are some kinds of pressures that are due to the changes in the patterns of the work and repairred to the place of work or workforce, customers needs and their conflicts regarding the services and products provided to them. So, here in this competitive environment besides those organisations can be successful that are adapted to the changes and accept the changes. They must be able to change themselves according to the environment otherwise they would be goalless in future(a). They thus have the risk to takeover and become stagnant. In order to change or adapt they must be clear to bushel the fol paltrying in accordance to the changing environment. The nature of any kind of change proposedThe origin for the need of changes.According to the Decent Home Standards set by the Government in July 2000 ensure that all accessible housing meets set standards of decency by 2010, by reducing the number of households in social housing that does not meet these standards by a third between 2001 and 2004, with most of the improvement taking place in the most deprived local authority areashttp//www.bankofgoodpractice.org/contentmanagement/documents/pdfhtmlfiles/FD7DF6AA-20ED-3428-8A3B720FC2698940.htm first appearance to the company British airways and reason for the implementation of changesBritish airwaysBA is puff up known and UKs outstandinggest airline at international level. This airway used to carry a huge number of passengers from the various countries and at the international level. This company is not only recognised in UK as well as in the world as the biggest airline. The destinations covered by this airline to the world immense routes are 550 around across the world globe.British Airways is the worlds biggest international airline, carrying a vast number of passengers from various countries to another. Also the company is one of mos t recognised airlines in the world. British Airways worldwide route ne 2rk covers around 550 destinations across the globe. This company has mainly two bases in the London one it Heathrow airport terminals and the other one is Gatwick airport terminal. No doubt that BA is recognised as the epicst international services in airlines though it has to face the high competition with its rival US as they tend to pick and drop the much than passengers at the domestic level flights. many time it has to be struggling to respect ahead in the competition. Following entitled some of the problems which have to be faced by the BA.Problems faced by BABritish Airways have faced threats and due to the long standing arguments with its unions, as well as a possible expensive strike ahead, as the organisation has cut thousands of jobs as a part of its restructuring programme.British Airways are currently struggling with staff shortages as the level of absenteeism for the companys employees are hig h to a higher place the average and unacceptable figures for the industry.Employees are said to be unmotivated and morale is low, as increase in pay is low and the restructuring of the company have led to 13000 job losses, the reason being the decline of the economy i.e. some ticket prices lowered to attract consumers, thus decreasing staff bonuses, salaries, redundancies etc., or some prices change magnitude due to maintenance, travelling salute.Failures with BAs 4.3 billion Terminal 5 (Heathrow) at launching stage, BA blamed the glitches on problems with staff familiarisation, which had a knock-on effect on bags and flights. adept difficulties also meant major delays in reclaiming luggage, flight cancellations, and suspension of check in service.Anti-airport expansion groups holding protests. This is because these groups are concerned with the level of pollution and harm already caused to the environment.Factors responsible for change in BAThe problems that are outline above a re basically due to the internal influences. However, here it is very necessary to recall that there are different environmental factors that have their influence over the strategies of the British airways and even their image, structure and means of operating. As the high-quality process for delineation of the political, social, heathenish economical and technical factors usually affect the changes in the organisations in the form of pest analysis for the British airways and illustrate these factors and how they intend to change in the environment. semipolitical factorsUpsurges in the prices of the fuel that will drive up expenditures of flying an airplane.Firmer EU rules and regulations related to the noise pollution have affect over the airlines. As there is dissemblement of Britain in the difficulties in the areas of Eastern nations and Iraq results in the unwilling to go with the organisation.Preferences of Britain regarding not to introduce the Euro has resulted in the decli ne in the percentage of the travellers to UK.Economic factors due to increase in the rates of interest there is great impact over the customers and they intend to save their money. They dont want to spend their money and this brings the reduction in the demand of holiday flights. Also there is increase in the taxes of and the flights become expensive.Socio-cultural factorsAt the instant it is very popular to travel out of the country, nevertheless location and taste of the customers changes very quickly.Threats of terrorist attack may reduce peoples desire to fly i.e. 9/11 New York, USADue to the insecurity and increase in the number of airline crashes there is decrease in the percentage of the passengers travel through with(predicate) the airlines. Most of the British airways flights are non-smoking and stop the smoking passengers to choose these airlines.technical factorsTechnology is proceeding in finishing so quickly that in the coming future travelling by aeroplane may not nec essary or flat outdate.British Airways clienteles are gradually discontinuing the usage of phones to reserve their travel documents or tickets.Having looked at the PEST analysis, it is clear that there is a large threat of the luxury airlines to the British Airways. For this there must be go with the opting the strategic management changes and marketing sources available and to follow up the promotional activities for the BA.theoretically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of bureaucratic organizationsSWOT ANALYSIS OF BRITISH AIRWAYS SWOT analysis is very useful tool for analysing the changes and the position of the company. It makes the company to be aware of the powers and weakness of the company with the opportunities and threats for the market. It is an assessment procedure for the company to find its strengths, and weaknesses and compared these with the opportunities and threats that can be faced in the competitive market (Fry et al, 2004). The strength of the organisation as well the weakness is related to the past and present, and is taken as the internally controlled factors within an organisation. On the contrary the threats and opportunities are related to point out the present and future of the organisation and for the taking of more outward looking for the informations (Brassington and Pettitt, 2003). STRENGTHSThe skills, resources and other kind of advantages of a company are defined as the strength of an organisation congress to its competitors in the market (Griffin, 2002). Accordingly the strengths of organisation British Airways (www.britishairways.co.uk) can be as followit continues to dominate Londons major airportsit contains the latest check-in technologyits discourse between managers and staff is very goodIt is still being perceived as the national airline.WEAKNESSESWeakness as the name implies are the deficiencies or drawbacks or we can say that shortcoming of the resources, skills and other kind of factors that create hindrance t o get the competitive advantage form the market (Griffin, 2002). Accordingly the drawbacks and weaknesses of the British Airways (www.britishairways.co.uk) are as follow-It contains of great labour numbers, particularly in the United KingdomIt has a dragging back aptitude.4.1.3 OPPORTUNITIESThe opportunities obtain data about economic, financial, political, legal, social and competitive changes in various markets the firm serves or might want to serve (Griffin, 2002). The opportunities of British Airways (www.britishairways.co.uk) could be that-Expedition in the economic segment of the organization. wisdom of the airlines as the national airlines. THREATSThe threats of an organisation are defined as the shrinking markets, increased competition, and the potential for new government regulations, political instability in key markets and the development of new technologies that could make the firm product lines obsolete (Griffin, 2002). Accordingly the threats for the organisation Briti sh Airways are as follow (www.britishairways.co.uk) It has ferocious opposition from low fare airlines e.g. Easy JetIts economy is on downturnIts companies are investing largely in order to improve their servicesIts technology offers a short-term advantageTask 2Develop systems for understanding and involving others in the process of changeIdentify the key Stakeholders in your organisation and Develop systems to involve those stakeholders in the introduction of change.StakeholdersEvery organisation needs the change so that they can satisfy their customers, because the view of altogether of the stakeholders is the important to define the success of the organisation. British Airways wants to comprehend its stakeholders (customers, opinion leaders and employees) for the better to inform the various decisions to be taken. Consequently, detailed and systematic dimension of measurement and research are basically located to give the important information.Following are the main stakeholders in the organisation to bring the changes and influence the process of the organisation.CustomersShareholdersGovernmentEmployeesCommunityThe brief explanation of these stakeholders is as follow for the better understanding of their roleCustomersThe customers are the key factor for the organisation and there must be changes according to the needs and desires of the customers. Customer expiation is very important as the satisfied customers become loyal and retained for the long time with the organisation by keep in mind the need and expectations of the customers there must be implementation of the changes within an organisation. This is mandatory for the organisation to be ahead in the completion. Here it is also found that it is easy to keep the existing customer while trying to attract the new customers even these loyal customers attend to bring more customer as they go through the word to mouth procedure and if they are blissful and satisfied they will promote the culture of orga nisation and that will be result in the more customers, so there must be strategies and change by having the customers in mind first. The monitoring of the feedback on the key stages of flights is usually followed each month. They monitor customers feedback on key stages of their flights each month, using a sample of passengers seated in particular positions throughout the aircraft.ShareholdersThe shareholders are also very crucial for the organisation as they are the investors and sources of finance for the organisation. The change must happen in the organisation have greater influences over them as they have their enthronisation in the company.so the changes are usually subjected to the shareholders.EmployeesEmployees are very important for an organisation. As they provide the interface between the services and the customers. The position of the organisation has affect over the employees if they would not happy how they can provide the good services to customers andCommunity the community within an organisation includes the working environment with the managers from other countries, employees and to the relevant community and also refer to the organisation that are non-government that enable to manage the processes at the local level and fro bringing up the changes for the substantial advantages for the concerned communities, British Airways is devoted to actuality a good fellow, apprehensive for the community and surroundings. They repeatedly endeavour to develop the social and environmentally friendly presentation, by the objective of guaranteeing that the actions add to the supportable development of the communities in which company perform their function. The government Her Majestys Prison Service (the Service) is part of the wider Home Office. Since 1993, the Service has been an Executive Agency of the Home Office and that remains the case. Since June 2004, the Service has also been part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS). NOMS is a huge enterprise spanning several organizations and around 70,000 staff.Analyse and evaluate these systems which you had used to involve the key stakeholder in change process.Change processThere is a substantial arguments related to the most suitable process of change for the organisation being having a wide range of literature present in the writings regarding management of change and even there are many tools and instruments for the implication of the changes into the management. But subsequently change is a domineering for all the organisations in order to sustain in this competitive environment organisation to sustain in a competitive environment, the organisation follow up the planned approach for the changes management in the organisational environment. At first Kurt Lewin has coined this term for the distinguishing the changes that was consciously boarded upon and scheduled by an organisation. (Burnes 2000, p.264) The planned approach to change is most closely associated with the practice of Organisation Development (OD) and indeed lies at its core. There are some apparent values that emerged as given as follow (Hurley et al 1992)Empowering employees to actCreating openness in communicationsFacilitating ownership of the change process and its outcomesThe promotion of a culture of collaborationThe promotion of continuous learning(Burnes 2000, p.265)These are those values that are incorporated in the British Airways and needs to incorporate into the cultural change for the successful implementation of the foster of the new culture in the organisation.Task 3Plan to implement posers for ensuring on going changeIdentify number of appropriate influences for change that suites your organisation.Models for the changes in British AirwaysAt present the BA is pursuance that enable changes for the long term advantages in the organisation. These models are followed in the three steps as followLewins 3 Step-Model1. UnfreezingThis principally entails reducing those curr ent practices and cultural norms that maintain the organisations behaviour. It is likely to taken as the shake-up stage for subdivisions related in the management of the organisational changes. The processes of BA consist of the followingDecrease in quantity of stages in the organisational order.Economizing of workforce of the British Airways.Start of improved programs for the training for the staff, so that they become able to avoid such type of situations in order to avoid such situations, so that the employees do not have to face the problems with the new technologies i.e. Terminal 5 incident.Modifications in the structures and systems of the British Airways.Amendment in the budgeting process.2. Moving to a new levelThis contains the actions taken by the British Airways regarding the results of the above step. In this process first there is analyse of the situation and then possible measures are taken to solve that particular problem and to implement the changes by choosing the m ost appropriate way and path for the action to be taken. afterward that there is selection of necessary move taken regarding the changes to implement. This step helps to make sure that the new ways are not done for just a short period, and staffs are not reverting back to the old ways, subsequently the following tasks are carried out by BA3. RefreezingThis is the last step of the model and this relates to stabilising the changes in the organisation. From this step it comes to make sure about the appropriateness of new methods that working safely and in an effective way. This phase does by in all supportive and strengthening the new ways of effort, like system of rewards induction and recruitment and even the strengthening of the culture for the British Airways.Furthermore other big changes that BA has implemented in its organisation are its high-level of Information Technology (I.T). This is becuase information systems and managemenet plays a key role in the airline industry. I.T supports close to every task in BA which most imporatntly underpins the delivery of quality service. Also BA have chosen to intergate better technolgy i.e. self check-in service, and more recently an underground lost baggage collection department, which is around a mile long and directly underneath the airport itself. This is is another path for success in uncertain times. By in effect applicating technology it will definately deliver BAs objectives and goals. Additionally Information Management objectives regarding I.T in BA includesSupporting the development of the BAs workforce, I.T and associates relations, so that it can deliver genuinely faultless customer service across their own route network and their associates.Improve efficiency of operations and decrease be as a result of standardised and simplified I.T.Utilize BAs expertness and knowledge of the airlines industry processes, in order to deliver the strategic systems, customer service, thus gaining recognition that wil l help the airline in the future. There are other requirements that are needed for the changes in the British airways are to have outsourcing in the form of subcontracting, like production of the designs and work with another party. This has been used by the British Airways for their business at most for the core aspects of the business. The outsourcing is used to reduce the cost of the expenditures of the organisation. In addition to this there is use of strong strategic alliances by the BA. This alliance includes the joining of American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Lan Airlines, Malv, Qantas and Royal Jordanian. By following this there is a range of opportunities for the cooperative solutions that are designed in order to provide a world that is seamless. Furthermore BA also involved in the implementing to spent the funds for the advertising of the organisation as it is going to support and sponsor the sports event that are going to be held in London i. e. London Olympic 2012 under cultural and charitable activities (BACC scheme) around the world i.e. 2012 Olympics is proudly sponsored by BA.There are some other aims and objectives that have been set by the organisation in order to meet in the coming future are as followEncourage 10% of customers to branch their carbon on ba.com by 2012Audit 100% of our strategic suppliers for ethical practices by 201275% of corporate customers use corporate responsibility as a decision criteria by 2010In adding there are some key issues of the environmental preservation to which the organisation is committed. These objectives are as followZero wipe out to landfill in the UK by 2010Reduce the average noise per flight by 15% by 201550% reduction in our net CO2 emissions by 2050How would you go ahead in implementing one or more model(s) in your chosen organisation and what improvements do you expect to achieve by implementing your chosen model(s).Implementing Change ModelsPlanned Change Change tha t involves actions based on a carefully thought-out process that anticipates future difficulties, threats and opportunitiesReactive Change Change that occurs when one takes action in response to perceived problems, threats and opportunities(Management, Bartol Martin, 1994, Page 208)The management of the changes within an organisation in an effective way is taken as the core issue of the development of the organisation. In this there is involvement of the Lewins three phase model as discussed above.Unfreezing recognition of the need for change and reducing the forces that maintain the current formMovement development of new attitudes or behaviour and implementation of change (new policies etc.)Refreezing stabilising change (are training, structures, new policies and procedures working?). Check, review and re-examine how changes are being implemented.Additional model implementationMobilising ChangeChange is the drumbeat in any organisation. It is unavoidable and thats why it is v ery crucial for the achievement of the success for an organisation.Demystify lack of uncloudedness can create a fog around your organisations purpose, position and philosophy.Think outside in check the alignment to external environment and scrutinise capability to meet the demands of all stakeholders.Map the system study the leadership team to highlight interdependencies between teams and reveal where development may be required.Communicate and follow explain any change that is taking place. Do this in a way that engages stakeholders and is emotionally compelling, to provoke thoughts and action from your audience (Inside Housing, Paul Oliver, Director, Conduco Consulting, Page 32, 9th celestial latitude 2005).ConclusionOverall conclusion from the above report, we have looked into the various aspects of the British Airways management of changes, structure and performances and also discussed the processes in which these changes are transferred into the organisation. Whats additi onal through detect into the several conceivable methods to management change, I must remained able to summary change strategies that require and can be applied by the British Airways, for the effective implementations. However it has to consider here that if all plans for the implementation of changes running in a smooth way. In addition to all it is mandatory for the British Airways to effectively transfer their changes to the organisation so that there must be significant results. There are suggested some key areas in which there is need of investment for the BA are as follow Development in the incentives and appraisal schemes etc. For managers and employees there should be provision of training. Different franchising actions. Outsourcing of the peripheral activitiesReferences

The Womens Movement Essays -- United States History Women Essays
The Wo manpowers MovementWorks Cited MissingThe womens move began in the nineteenth nose candy when groups of women began to speak out a sort outst the feeling of separation, in matchity, and limits that seemed to be placed on women because of their sex (Debois 18). By combining two aspects of the past, ante-bellum reform politics and the anti-slavery movement, women were able to gain familiarity of leadership on how to deal with the Womens Right Movement and with this knowledge led the way to transform womens social standing (Dubois 23). Similarly, the movement that do the largest impact on American societies of the 1960s and 1970s was the Civil Right Movement, which in turn affected the womens movement (Freeman 513). According to informant Betsie Cole, at age forty-six and an instructor at East Tennessee State University, the womens movement made a large impact on her life emergence up and she is still able to see the changes that the womens movement has made in society.Cole s tates that women did not have to be directly involved in the twentieth century womens movement to feel and notice the impact it had on society. Cole, for example, notes that even though she wasnt in an organization to help corroboration the womens movement until she was in college, it still made an impact on her during her high direct years. The modern movement was just getting into gear when I was in high school and that was my formative years. That thinking about- well, what is a womens role? What am I supposed to be after high school? stated Cole.Cole considers this era a period of questioning mainly because college was considered a choice at the time when she was graduating high school. Are you going to counterfeit or are you going to start a fami... ...al interest concerning small sections of feminism rather then the whole picture, Cole said. Maybe the fragmenting of the womens movement has to do with some women being so comfortable in todays society that they feel no need t o press on to gain more social equality. The movement has made a lot of progress in changing the views that society has caste on women by aiding in the accomplishments for equal rights. College is not presented as a choice for women, but rather a choice for both sexes, right along with choosing a career and working. Granted that men do have more benefits with pay and support, but now women are not looked down on for going to college. Striving for equal rights and opportunities is still a major issue for women and probably will be for years to come. Cole summed it up best by saying, I still believe that one person can change the world

School Districts Essay -- Education, Teachers
Every drill district aims for high achievement some consistently exceed expectations while others fail. With close to 3.2 million teachers employed nationwide (Fast Facts, 2011), school districts are often categorized into three groups urban, suburban and rural. Within these categories, lower socioeconomic status is prevalent in the rural and urban areas. However, the students in urban districts are the most culturally diverse. Many people would assume a teacher in a rural school would use similar to same teaching strategies as one in an urban school. However, this assumption is incorrect for several reasons. Students in urban schools endure many hardships unique to its location and the kind issues that exist. This research expository will serve as a guideline for success for administrators and teachers in urban schools and teachers. In this unique environment, its critical that teachers figure of speech off the most important resource they have the student body. Urban districts have many disadvantages and face my tribulations in its quest to become a happy school (meeting standards). The teachers in urban districts have typically been very unhappy compared to those who teach in rural and suburban districts. Many teachers claim they are dissatisfied because they feel their role is minimal in deciding important educational decisions such as computer program. In these urban districts, a top-down approach is ordinarily used and teachers have claimed to feel as though the wrong people are making the most important decisions. Many administrators feel it is necessary in todays urban educational environment because of the amount of first year teachers hired every year. Another reason district administrators create curriculum is b... ...tion needed to succeed in the school. In experimental studies, urban schools that use service learning as a curriculum guideline have seen attending and test advance rise while behavior issues subside. Laws, such as No Child L eft Behind, that threaten failing schools with punitive penalties if test scores do not meet a standard are fueling the growing pandemic that is the failing urban schools of the United States. It must be understand that education in the public school system cannot be solved with an old fashioned cookie cutter approach not all schools should be treated the same. The fact is all schools are unique because they are filled with individuals stemming from their own unique cultural background. Motivation and personalization is key by tapping into their interests and lifestyle, teachers can straddle the gap between success and repeated failure.

Picks Disease Essay -- Biology Essays Research Papers
Picks DiseasePicks disease is a form of dementia characterized by a progressive and irreversible deterioration of social skills and changes in personality, along with impairment of intellect, memory, and language. In 1892 Arnold Pick, a German neurologist studied a patient who in his life had dementia and lost of speech. When the patient died, his outlook shrunk, with the brain cells having died (atrophied) in the specific areas of the brain. In Picks disease, the anterior and temporal lobes of the brain are most affected. Changes occur in the cerebral cortex (which is how the head-on lobe is affected.) Picks disease affects the temporal lobes of the brain in 25%, frontal lobes in 25% and both frontal and temporal lobes in 50% of cases (1). Damage to the frontal lobes leads to alterations in personality and behavior, changes in the way a person feels and expresses emotion, and loss of judgment. On a microscopic level, there is severe neuron damage in the cerebral cortex. The brain cells in these areas are found to be abnormal and swollen. These abnormal cells define Picks disease and are called Picks cells. Picks disease is often confused with Alzheimers disease where the degeneration generally affects mostly the temporal and the parietal lobes of the brain (2). When such normal cells are not seen on post-mortem examination but the same areas of the brain are affected by cell death the case may be described as Picks syndrome (3). In the early stages of Picks disease, unlike Alzheimers in its early stages, the patient can recognize sight and places. Usually, an infect person is diagnosed with probable Alzheimers, it is later discovered that the patient has Picks disease (2). There are three stages of the d... ...s exist as an familial disease in some families. The majority of case studies show that the patients affected have no family history of the disease. The rate of progression varies enormously between people ranging from a duration from 2-15 years ( 2). The death is usually caused by infection. Medication can be used to treat some of the behavioral problems. Picks disease alone is a very mentally and physically draining disease but along with medication, it maybe almost impossible for patients to continue a normal life once they are diagnosed with the disease and begin treatment.
